Using your hair colour to determine the mascara colour will give you that natural look but for a night out why not try blue or purple mascara shades.
Your type of lash makes a difference as well in choosing the type of mascara thats best for you. Naturally long lashes tend to do best with thicker mascaras whilst lighter mascaras are more suited to those with shorter lashes. The type of mascara brush makes a difference too. A thick brush is best for long and full lashes, whilst small lashes are best suited to a small brush. Both waterproof and water-soluble mascaras are available. Waterproof mascaras are great for occasions when you may be dancing the night away, off to see a tearjerker at the cinema with friends, dumping the boyfriend, and any other times you think you may cry, sweat or come into contact with water (rain etc). Watersoluble mascaras do have the advantage of being easy to remove without the rubbing, and stretching of the skin when using makeup remover, although when they come into contact with water you can end up not looking your best.
As with all cosmetics and make up if you have sensitive skin or any skin allergies use hypoallergenic mascaras. Posted on Sunday Mar 7 0:00:00 UTC 2010 Listed under: Advice Tips Tricks, Nail Varnish Preparation is the one of the keys to great nail polish. Its not difficult to get a great finish and great looking nails. Before you start make sure you have everything you will need to hand. Nail varnish, nail varnish remover and moisturiser are the most obvious things. You will also need some cotton pads, emery boards, cuticle sticks and just as importantly time. Rushing the application of your nail polish could mean it takes longer than normal as well as the finish itself not lasting as long as it could. If you have any previous nail polish residue on your nails remove this using nail polish remover on one of the cotton pads. Try where possible to limit nail varnish remover use to once a week to rest the nails from the chemicals. By using a remover that does not contain acetone or alcohol you will help prevent nails from drying out and the nail varnish chipping. Now you can tidy up and neaten your nails appearance by using an emery board, cuticle trimmer and nail scissors. To prevent the nail tip from flaking only ever file your nails in one direction. Whilst doing this its also a great time to apply some cuticle oil to soften the nails as well. Soak and wash hands thoroughly to prevent the dust from the filing, residue from the nail varnish remover ruining the new varnish and to soften your cuticles (the skin that naturally overlaps your nails) as natural oils prevent nail polish from staying on this area. Using paper towels to dry hands will prevent lint from cotton towels being deposited on your nails, ruining the final finish. It is best to apply the nail polish in a few thin layers rather than one thick layer. Wipe the brush on the side of the pot, avoiding painting the cuticle and with your hand flat brush it on quickly with one or two strokes. Any slight unevenness at this point will soon become a smooth surface. Only apply the nail polish near to but not on the nails edge and once the first layer is fully dry apply another layer the same way. Once applied keep you hand as still as possible to prevent smudging to the nail polish but if you do get any on the skin around your hand a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton bud can be used to gently rub the affected area. If you want a bit more precision at this point you can always wrap some cotton wool around a cuticle stick.
Posted on Sunday Feb 28 0:00:00 UTC 2010 As Sophia Loren once said ... Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical. Eye makeup can change your appearance and give you a totally different look and feel for the day. There are no hard and fast rules for applying eye makeup but here are some tips you may find helpful. Use a maximum of three colours when applying eyeshadow. A light colour across your eyelid close to the brow bone, a medium colour across and below your eyelid, with the darker colour close to the eye lashes. Before applying any eyeliner make sure that it will compliment the eyeshadow you are wearing and choose an appropriate colour to enhance your eyes. To make those lashes really stand out why not mix your mascara. A coat of lengthening mascara followed by a thickening mascara is a combination used by many makeup artists.
To prevent clumping of your mascara if you apply 2 coats make sure the second coat is applied before the first coat dries. If you are only applying one coat closing your eyes, placing the wand on top of your lashes and pulling it gently through them will help prevent clogging. Your mascara will last longer if you avoid pumping the wand in and out of it, as this introduces air into the tube. |
